In 1986, Jim Rion and his wife Denise started the church in a small rented space with just a few people attending the first service. When they outgrew that location and began searching for a place to build, Pastor Jim felt led to an undeveloped area of town named Westover Hills, leaving many to wonder why he'd build a church "out there."
Now positioned on a 40-acre campus in one of the fastest growing zip codes in the nation, Westover Hills has grown into a thriving, diverse congregation with a weekly attendance of about 4,000, making Outreach Magazine's annual list of the Fastest Growing U.S. Churches for the previous two years.
Despite experiencing exponential growth, Jim and Denise's vision for Westover Hills never changed. When you visit, you'll hear and see the vision statement Making New, Making Great. It means helping people experience the new life that comes with knowing Christ and the great life that comes with loving and serving him. It's what the church is all about and it's behind everything the staff does, because we believe God has a dream for everyone's life — including yours.
WHAG, as it's often called, is a pentecostal church that, though autonomous, belongs to the General Council of the Assemblies of God. To learn more about the Assemblies of God, visit www.ag.org where you'll find videos explaining the four core beliefs of the AG and its tenets of faith.
